Casey Aldridge

Concord, NC

Casey Aldridge ’17 joined in on family tradition when he decided to become a 49er. His parents both attended UNC Charlotte, but it was the opportunity to travel and the community of scholars offered by the Levine Scholars Program that drew him to Niner Nation.

Casey’s dreams of traveling were fulfilled as a visiting scholar at the University of Glasgow and again in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The religious studies, history, and political science major and Africana studies minor credits the Levine Scholars Program for the flexibility that has allowed him to personalize his college experience. As a staff writer, Casey has taken on leadership in the UNC Charlotte student newspaper, the Niner Times, and was named Rookie of the Year (2014-2015) and Opinion Editor. He is a founder of Interfaith UNC Charlotte, Chief Campus Organizer for the NC Student Power Union, Co- Founder of the Interfaith Climate Action Coalition and Treasurer of Model United Nations. He is also a member of Feminist Union, Solarize Charlotte and Students for Justice in Palestine among many others.

Of the scholarship Casey says “if you want to take your education into your own hands, to see the world and maximize your academic and professional possibilities, to have a program where you will find your best friends and where unbelievable opportunities are made within reach, then there is really no other choice.”
