The emphasis on civic engagement drew Jaden Barney ’17 to join the Levine Scholars Program. This mechanical engineering major and women’s and gender studies minor  said she had never heard of a program that trusted students and believed in the passion of students so much that they would give them control over creating their own initiatives. “If you want a place where you can contribute to a culture and have a bigger purpose than just attending college for your degree, the Levine Scholars program is the place for you.”

Jaden is currently interning at the Apple headquarters in Cupertino, CA and completed an internship with the Scholars Program of Project Scientist. Her research in partnership with the UNC Charlotte Department of Sociology and Project Scientist led her to present at many professional conferences, including the National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT) Summit.  She served as the Public Relations Chair for the Society of Women Engineers and is a member of the American Society for Mechanical Engineering, the American Society for Precision Engineering and the NCWIT. She is a NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Ambassador and a recipient of the Bechtel Systems Infrastructure, Inc. Citizen Scholars Award.
