Jamie Smith

Raleigh, NC

Jamie Smith ’17 is majoring in anthropology, international studies and organizational communication with minors in women’s and gender studies and Spanish. She enjoys the friendly and welcoming campus community and the cultural resources throughout the city of Charlotte. “Being a 49er just means being a part of the UNC Charlotte community. That means participating in campus-wide events and doing my best to uphold what I think students at UNC Charlotte should be doing.”

Jamie lists the month she spent doing field archaeology in Cyprus among her best college experiences. “I was in class, but it was more like being trained to do an actual job, which is something that we sometimes forget to do in class even though that is the main reason many people are in college. I was also able to apply concepts that I had learned in the classroom in the field, making for a new critical thinking experience.”

As a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority, Jamie has served as a representative to the Standards Council and the Triangle Correspondent. She is also a member of the Dance Marathon Entertainment and Morale Committees and is a Leadership Fellow. She interned with the World Affairs Council of Charlotte and helped organize the “Kickin’ Grass” Kickball Tournament to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
